This person escorts the team to their various locations. They are also responsible for student behavior and discipline. This person may be a teacher or school personnel.
- The Team Chaperone escorts the team to their first round room and stays with the team while the moderators, scorekeepers and building coordinators check-in.
- The furniture, desks, chairs, etc. should not be rearranged until the moderator is present to supervise. Classroom displays, contents of desks, computers, etc. should never be touched. The moderator will return the room to its original state.
- When teams are made up of more than twelve (12) members, the chaperone
accompanying the team must supervise the composition of the team,
rotating alternates in and out of each round.
- All team members should participate in at least two rounds.
- No team member should sit out more than one round.
- No more than 12 students may participate during each round, and the
composition of the team may not change after each round has begun.
- The chaperone is responsible for accompanying team members to the restrooms and keeping participants in the contest room until the announcement is made to move to the next round.
- Students MUST remain in the room until the end of Round 1 or 2 is officially announced. Students should remain seated and must visit quietly to ensure that announcements may be heard. When Round 3 questions are complete, teams may proceed to their assigned award location. Noise in the hallways is unfair to the other teams and prolongs the event.
- At the conclusion of each round, the chaperone accompanying the team must obtain the team scorecard from the scorekeeper and deliver it to the scorekeeper in the subsequent round.
- The chaperone accompanying the team travels with the team from room to room, ensuring that the team follows the Reading Olympics rules and assisting in maintaining order in both the classrooms and hallways between rounds.
- At the conclusion of the third round, the chaperone accompanying the team assists team members and spectators in returning the room to its original condition.
- The teacher accompanying the team must remain with the team during the awards ceremony, assisting with crowd and noise control. At the conclusion of the awards ceremony the teacher accompanying the team releases students to parents or a designated adult, or accompanies the students to the bus.
