Team Configuration Guidelines

Teams are composed of at least 8 and up to 15 students. No more than 12 students may participate during each round, with the remaining students as alternate players. Student population dictates the maximum number of teams that may be enrolled. The school then may determine how the total number of teams will be used based on grade levels.

Number of teams based on Student Population:

Grade levels:

NOTE: If you are in a school that has overlapping grades (i.e. K-6 or K-8) and you will need to submit multiple preliminary registrations - one for each level (an elementary registration for your 4th/5th graders, a middle school one for your 6th graders, etc.

The composition of the team may not change after a round has begun. All team members should participate in at least two rounds and no team member should sit out for more than one round. Teams of mixed age, gender and reading ability are encouraged. Each team participates in three rounds of 20 questions per team. Teams receive one point for each correct answer. Teams may receive bonus points for correctly answering questions that their opponents answered incorrectly. Team scores are cumulative. Ribbons are awarded to all participants according to the team’s score for all three rounds.
